Old school jokester/art band They Might Be Giants continue to prove themselves one of the hippest bands in the Web 2.0 world (check out this fan wiki) with a new offering of ring tones. Including this humorous one called "Call Connected by the NSA"
YouTube now accepts video from mobiles
Via Heather Green at BusinessWeek, YouTube has announced that users can now upload video from their mobile devices. This sounds like a very good move. We'll see if it turns into a citizen journalism type thing, documentation like Peter Gabriel's Witness or just more trash like so much of YouTube. The technology has a lot of potential though. Imagine how fast video can spread now: shoot and upload from your phone, supporters grab the code snippet to display your video on their website and it goes from there. A lot of potential.
Gillmor Gang guested by Congdon, Jarvis and Edelman
If you're in the mood for podcasts, the most recent edition of the
Gillmor Gang is not to be missed. Topics covered include: new media vs. old and the changing advertising landscape.
Amanda Congdon from RocketBoom, Jeff Jarvis from BuzzMachine/About.com/NYTimes and Richard Edelman, head of the PR firm that
represents Walmart and is smart enough to employ Steve Rubel, are all the
guests. And it's only 30 minutes long! So if you are put off by the usual hour length of one of the best podcasts
online - this could be your big chance to check it out. Very forward-looking stuff in this one.

- Did you know that Rocketboom gets around 300,000 viewers daily? The long tail brings some episodes up to one million. Having a deal withTivo helps I'm sure, but the conversation concluded that the future would be one where content finds its way to consumers in a wide variety of ways, not locked into a single Network.
- Check out this Rocketboom interview with Dave Winer. (Winer thinks MySpace is training wheels for more sophisticated systems, like blogging. Hmmmm....)
- Richard Edelman says his company is talking to Technorati about some very interesting collaboration between advertiser conversation and bloggers.
Audioblog.com rebranding and expanding
After a
few days off I'm in the swing of things at SXSW, where the first thing I got to do was interview Eric Rice (off-site) of Audioblog.com yesterday. Audioblog started as a service that allowed people to
record podcasts by calling a phone number; today the company offers many more related services - including video
hosting and delivery. Found out a number of interesting things. First, the company is in the process of
rebranding and will soon be referred to as Hipcast - to better reflect their offerings beyond audio and blogs.
Second, they are expanding operations into Japan with Castella.jp. Eric
Rice is a busy man in the podcasting scene and his company looks to be on the ascent.
