Well, now, isn't this fascinating — Yahoo acquired del.icio.us. Wonder if this means I'll be able to stop using the combination bookmarklet for del.icio.us and My Web 2.0 at some point and get one bookmarklet to rule them all. Automagic sync between del.icio.us and My Web 2.0 bookmarks? Or will the services get merged somehow? Anybody have predictions they want to throw down?

5. With the Yahoo servers now behind the del.icio.us service, I expect that it will be much quicker and easier to access your bookmarks online. I also think that there is a lot of potential for shared tagging between Yahoo services - not only between del.icio.us and Web 2.0 bookmarks but with Flickr tags as well.

6. Excuse me, but I am freaking out! You are going to have to login with a Yahoo username! And who knows what else is going to happen! I'm serious, this is BAD NEWS. If there are any two things that ought not be owned by a megacorp in Web 2.0 it's del.icio.us and Feedburner. Damn it. That's VC money for you though, eh? I'm sure the VCs are proud. Subscription, advertising or patronage - I'll chose subscription! I would have paid a monthly fee to del.icio.us no problem, to prevent this sort of thing from happening. Does the Chinese government know about the del.lookup bookmarklet? I don't know about the del.founder's politics (or maybe now I do) but Yahoo proved just a few months ago they'd turn a user over to a decade long prison sentence just for fear they might lose access to, for example, the Chinese market. What was that user's crime? He told the world that the Chinese military had plans to be extra vigilant during the anniversary of Tienanmen square. And he's in prison now, for 10 years. Thanks yahoo! So tell me about yahoo's API's? I honestly don't know. Is Livemarks going to get a cease and desist if they don't run Yahoo ads?? I don't know where the author of del.icio.us director lives, but I hope it's a country with limited WTO IPR influence.
Really, all the best new social bookmarking services are syncing up with del.icio.us already. It should have been a public utility, I swear. yahoo's MyWeb2.0 should have been doing that already. I thought everyone but Furl was. Perhaps that's the grounds to challenge the behemoth. This is a huge coup. This is bad news. This is bad news for the world in general. Inasmuch as Web 2.0 is a technology and not a property, this is bad news.
But I bet the URL will become more understandable to new users.

8. This is an important event in the modernization of people use the web. Yahoo will certainly merge the YahooID and Yahoo 360 aspects into future changes to del.icio.us. However, this may be a good thing as they will do the "educating" for the masses of people that don't have a clue was RSS is. Eventually there will be other services offered by Microsoft (http://research.microsoft.com/scg) and Google (reader+dbase+orkut). As sad as I am to see a young smart company swallowed up by a large player - this will help the icio.us group do more to really change the web. There is still room for bright new startups in this industry. The bug guys are incredibly far from cornering Web 2.0, and that means opportunity. Yahoo's purchase is like a kick in the a$$ to all those entrepreneurs eyeing the social software space.

9. Marshall -- I'm inclined to agree with you. I'm definitely wary. Much as I'm happy for the success and validation for the Flickr folk (and god knows i love 'em), in some ways I feel like something died when Yahoo bought Flickr -- some positive and relatively untainted spirit we aren't going to get back. It was the beginning of Bubble 2.0 and while many are invigorated by the smell of money, I often find myself a bit nauseated.
I'm sure the whole Yahoo ID thing will come up soon enough and when it does I hope I can muster up enough energy to write a scathing invective about how ridiculous it is that businesses think they can own communities, and how ridiculous it is that we as users aren't getting diddley squat in the way of effort from the Big Cos to give us some authentic portable identity that's not owned by any one of them but frankly... I'm really tired of the whole business, the built to flip game, the greed, all of it.
